‘155 runs in 94 balls…’, Rohit Sharma’s storm in Vijay Hazare Trophy, destroyed the bowlers

Rohit Sharma, taking full advantage of Sikkim’s inexperienced bowling attack, scored 155 runs in 94 balls and on the basis of his brilliant innings on his return to List A cricket, Mumbai defeated Sikkim by eight wickets in the Vijay Hazare Trophy Group C match on Wednesday.

Giving Christmas gift to around twenty thousand spectators, ‘Hitman’ Rohit hit 18 fours and nine sixes in his innings. Mumbai set the target of 237 runs to win by 30. Achieved in 3 overs.

The challenge from Sikkim bowlers Paljar Tamang, Kranti Kumar, Gurinder Singh and Ankur Malik was negligible for Rohit. He started the revolution by hitting a four over midwicket. He did not even spare the spinners during his innings. He also got two leases of life but there was no hindrance in his running speed.

“This is the biggest day of our lives to be on the field with such a great cricketer,” Sikkim captain Lee Yong told PTI. He respected the good balls and admonished the loose balls. He was also saying that this ball was good and I should have hit this shot here and not there.

Rohit made a partnership of 141 runs with Angkrish Raghuvanshi (38 in 56 balls) and 75 runs with debutant Mushir Khan (27).

In another match, Punjab defeated Maharashtra by 51 runs. Captain Abhishek Sharma scored 48 runs in 45 balls but Naman Dhir played the role of architect of the victory by scoring 97 runs in 78 balls.

Punjab scored 347 runs for six wickets. In reply, Maharashtra team could score only 296 runs for eight wickets.
