Two phases of SIR process have been completed in Bihar. After the claims and objections on the draft list of 7.24 crore voters released by the Election Commission on August 1, 2025, the picture has started to see something clear. This time more than 16.56 lakh new voters have registered at the record level. At the same time, objections have been lodged to remove about 2.17 lakh names. That is, where millions of new names can be added to the draft voter list in the final list, a large number of old names can also be cut.

According to official data, the claims and objections from political parties have been relatively low according to official data. The CPI (ML) Liberation has demanded adding 15 new names and removing 103 names. RJD claimed to include 10 new names, while the BJP lodged an objection to the removal of 16 names. Parties like Congress, Aam Aadmi Party and JDU have not made any application. These figures are till 10 am on Monday (September 01).

Those who suspect citizenship will be investigated in a thorough investigation

In the applications directly from the voters, 36,475 people have claimed to have added their names, while 2,17,049 have lodged an objection to the removal or reform. Of these, 40,630 cases have been settled in seven days. The Election Commission has reiterated that no name will be removed from the draft list published on August 1, 2025, without hearing and appropriate reasons, but those who are suspected of citizenship will be intensively investigated and their names will be removed from the list if found illegal.

Meanwhile, during this process, such cases have also come before the Election Commission where doubts are being raised about the citizenship of voters. According to the information in front of the Commission, citizenship of about three lakh voters is suspicious. It is feared that a large number of illegal migrants from Bangladesh and Rohingya refugees from Myanmar may be refugees. Officials say that as the investigation progresses, this number may increase further.

Overall, this time two parallel photos are emerging in the voter list, on the one hand the record registration of new voters is strengthening democracy, on the other hand, the names of many lakhs are also coming out which were still recorded as Indian voters, but their citizenship is under suspicion. In such a situation, during the month of September, now the Election Commission and the officials will examine the documents given by all the voters and prepare the final voter list, then before that they will ensure that the name of the country should be in the voter list who is the voter of the country and if citizenship is suspicious, then its name should be removed from the voter list.
