Security forces have killed 22 terrorists of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in an operation based on intelligence in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The army gave this information on Tuesday. A statement issued by the Pakistan Army’s media wing ‘Inter-Services Public Relations’ (ISPR) said that security forces on Monday conducted an operation in Bannu district bordering North Waziristan, where the presence of terrorists was reported.
What did the Pakistani Army tell?
“During the operation, troops targeted Khawarij hideouts and 22 Khawarij were killed after a fierce encounter,” the statement said.
The Pakistan government uses the term ‘Fitna al-Khawarij’ for TTP terrorists.
ISPR said that the search operation is going on to ensure the elimination of all terrorists in the area.
Operations underway to reduce the threat of terrorism
The Army said that anti-terrorism operations by security forces and law enforcement agencies will continue with full force to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the country. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for the successful operation and said they were achieving “major successes” in the fight against terrorism.
He said, “The entire community stands with the Pakistan Army in the war against terrorism. We are committed to completely eliminate all forms of terrorism from the country.
TTP had canceled the ceasefire agreement
TTP had canceled the ceasefire agreement with the government in November 2022. Since then, there has been an increase in terrorist activities in Pakistan, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces. The latest in the series of terrorist incidents is the suicide attack on the ‘Federal Constabulary’ (FC) headquarters in Peshawar on Monday morning, in which three FC personnel were killed and 12 were injured.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfikar Hameed said on Tuesday that officials have identified the place where the terrorists had spent the night before the suicide attack.
