Under the military agreement between India and Russia, both countries can deploy three thousand soldiers, five warships and 10 military aircraft at each other’s military bases. In this way, if Russia can maintain its presence in the Indian Ocean, India can step into the remote Arctic region.
During Putin’s visit to India, Russia’s Parliament (Duma) has approved a key defense agreement with India, which will allow both countries to deploy troops and equipment to each other’s territory for joint military exercises, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
The agreement, called Reciprocal Exchange of Logistic Support (RELOS), was signed between the two countries and has now been approved by the Duma, the lower house of Russia’s parliament.
In fact, for the exploration of oil and minerals in the Arctic region, India wants its presence in this remote area because Russia has a long border with the Arctic region, hence this logistics agreement has been signed with Russia. There is heavy snowfall in this area and even ships have to cut ice to navigate. In such a situation, Russia has even offered to help India build a special ice-cutter ship for such areas.
On the other hand, Russia is the only P-5 (United Nations Security Council) country which has no presence in the Indian Ocean. In such a situation, Russia has confirmed its presence in this region by signing the RELS agreement with India.
The armies of India and Russia conduct joint exercise Indra (India-Russia). The special thing is that Russia is the first country with which all three wings of the Indian Army, the three wings of Russia i.e. Army, Air Force and Navy conduct joint military exercises. Its name is also Indra.
Exercise Indra between the two countries had stopped after the start of the Ukraine war. But this year once again this exercise between the Indian Army (Army) and the Russian Army was conducted at the Mahajan Field Firing Range near Bikaner.
