US Military Operation In Venezuela: 32 Cuban military and police officers have been killed in a US military operation in Venezuela. The Cuban government officially confirmed this on Sunday (January 4, 2026). This is the first official death toll made public by Cuba after the US attacks in Venezuela.
An official statement issued by the Cuban government said that all the Cuban military and police officers killed were deployed there at the request of the Venezuelan government and were working on a special mission. However, the Cuban government did not clarify what kind of responsibilities these officials were performing in Venezuela.

Speaking to reporters on Air Force One while returning to Washington from Florida on Sunday (January 4) night, Trump said, ‘You know, a lot of Cubans were killed yesterday. On the other hand, there have been many deaths. There were no deaths on our side.
Military action took place on January 3
America took this military action in Venezuela on Saturday (January 3, 2026). During this operation, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife were taken into custody and taken to America. Both have been said to be prosecuted for their involvement in drug-related terrorist conspiracy, i.e. narco-terrorism. The Venezuelan government has admitted that some people were killed in the US attacks, but it did not tell the news agency AP (Associated Press) the total number of deaths.
National mourning declared in Cuba
The Cuban government has declared two days of national mourning in honor of the slain officers. Former Cuban President and revolutionary leader Raul Castro and current President Miguel Diaz-Canel have expressed condolences to the bereaved families. At present, the names and posts of the deceased officers have not been made public.
