Preparations for the 19th season of the Indian Premier League i.e. IPL 2026 have started. The IPL 2026 auction will be held in Abu Dhabi on 16 December. This time, 1390 players from all over the world had registered for the auction, out of which 350 players have been shortlisted for the mini auction. This also includes Australia’s star batsman Steve Smith, who remained unsold in last season’s mega auction.
240 Indian and 110 foreign players shortlisted for IPL 2026 auction
A total of 350 cricketers will be auctioned in the auction to be held in Abu Dhabi on December 16, which includes 240 Indian and 110 foreign players. The name of South African wicketkeeper batsman Quinton de Kock has also been included in the final list. De Kock has recently returned from retirement to limited overs cricket. His base price is Rs 1 crore. Australian batsman Steve Smith is also included in this list, whose base price is Rs 2 crore. Smith last played in IPL in 2021.
According to the press release of IPL, a total of 1390 players had registered for the player auction, which was later reduced to 1005. A list of the final 350 players has been prepared from among these players. Out of these 350 players, the 10 franchise teams of IPL will be able to buy a maximum of 77 players in the auction.
India’s Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan included in the first set
The first set in the IPL 2026 auction includes India’s Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan. Both of them have kept their base price at Rs 75 lakh. Shaw played in the IPL from 2018 to 2024, but he did not find any buyer in the last auction. Sarfaraz has not played in this tournament since 2021.
Apart from two Australian players Cameron Green and Jake Fraser McGurk, former New Zealand and Chennai Super Kings opener Devon Conway and South Africa’s David Miller are also included in the list shared by the IPL. The base price of each of these is Rs 2 crore.
Cameron Green can be sold at the most expensive
All-rounder Venkatesh Iyer, released by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has kept his base price at Rs 2 crore. Kunal Chandela and Ashok Kumar, who performed impressively in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, are also included in the final list of the auction.
Three-time winners KKR will enter the auction with the highest amount of Rs 64.3 crore. After that comes five-time champion Chennai Super Kings, who have Rs 43.4 crore left. Sunrisers Hyderabad, which has won the IPL title once, is at third place in this list with Rs 25.5 crore.
The final list of the auction includes 21 players from England. These include wicketkeeper batsman Jamie Smith, fast bowler Gus Atkinson, Liam Livingstone and Test opener Ben Duckett. There is a possibility of a big bid on Cameron Green in this auction. A total of 19 players from Australia are included in the list. Apart from Green, other prominent names are Josh Inglis, Matthew Short, Cooper Connolly and Beau Webster.
Know how many players from which country are included in the auction
15 players from South Africa are part of the auction list. Along with De Kock and Miller, fast bowlers Enrique Norkia, Lungi Ngidi, Gerald Coetzee and all-rounder Wiaan Mulder are also included. The nine West Indies players who made it to the auction list include fast bowlers Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph, Akeem Auguste, Shai Hope and Roston Chase.
The 12 Sri Lankan players who have made it to the auction list include Wanindu Hasaranga, Dunith Vellalej, Mahesh Theekshana, Traveen Mathew, Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis and Kusal Perera. 16 players from New Zealand and 10 from Afghanistan have got a place in the auction list. New Zealand players also include Rachin Ravindra, who was released by Chennai Super Kings. Afghanistan players also include Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Naveen Ul Haq.
