According to reports, the thieves entered the museum by forcing open a window, cut the boxes using a disc cutter and ran away with eight French crown jewels. The stolen jewelery also included the property of Queen Marie-Louise and Eugenie.
Activities of thieves seen in CCTV footage
In the CCTV footage installed in the museum, four people were seen, who had come in a truck fitted with a lift. With the help of that lift, all the thieves reached the window of the first floor of the museum and then escaped on a motor scooter on the banks of the Seine river. Initial investigation revealed that construction work was going on in the part of the museum from which the thieves fled.
French Home Minister gave statement after the theft
French Home Minister Laurent Nunez had given a statement after this robbery that this incident was carried out by three to four people together and they targeted two displays of Apollo’s gallery. It is clear that before this incident, recce of the museum was done, which is the work of a professional team and they had used disc cutter to cut the glass.
