4 days ‘traffic lockdown’ in Delhi! Many routes will be diverted and some schools will also remain closed, know the reason

Preparations are in full swing in the capital for the AI Summit going to be held in Delhi from 16 to 20 February. Delhi Police and Traffic Police have implemented a special traffic plan around the venue Bharat Mandapam and in large parts of Lutyens’ Delhi. The reason is clear, there will be a lot of VVIP movement in these 4 days, hence there will be diversions and restrictions on many important roads.

34 schools within 5 kilometer radius will be affected

A total of 34 schools come within a radius of 5 kilometers of Bharat Mandapam. The traffic plan will affect all of them. According to Dinesh Kumar Gupta, Additional Commissioner of Traffic Police, nodal officers will be deployed by the Education Department and Traffic Police to ensure that there is no problem in the movement of children.

Out of these 34 schools, 10 schools are board examination centres. About 2,943 students will come here to take the examination. Since some schools are very close to the VVIP route, there is a possibility of high traffic pressure there.

There may be problem of traffic jam or slow speed around the remaining 24 schools also. The administration says that separate arrangements are being made to reach the students to the examination center on time.

Advisory to schools, online classes also considered

The Directorate of Education has issued a circular to all the affected schools. It has been said that they should maintain coordination with the traffic police and make alternative arrangements if needed.

Some schools are also considering conducting regular classes online as a precaution, so that children and parents do not have to face problems. Although there will be offline arrangements for the examination centres, it is advised to leave early to reach there.

There will be increased activity around big hotels

Many major hotels in the capital have been booked to accommodate the delegates coming from India and abroad for the summit. These include Oberoi New Delhi, Taj Mahal Hotel, Claridge’s, Le Meridien, Hotel Imperial, Leela Palace New Delhi, Taj Palace New Delhi, ITC Maurya, Hyatt Regency and Hotel Ashok. There will be tight security arrangements around these hotels and traffic may be affected more than on normal days.

Those following the Subramaniam Bharati route have been advised to take the Archbishop Markarius route or the Maharishi Raman route.

Ring Road (ITO-Ashram Section) and Pragati Maidan Tunnel have been suggested as better options for those traveling via Bhairon Marg. Movement may also be limited on Rajesh Pilot Marg. In such a situation, it has been advised to go via Safdarjung Marg or Aurobindo Marg.
