A medium-range ballistic missile Agni-5 was successfully tested on 20 August 2025 from the Integrated Test range in Chandipur, Odisha. According to the Ministry of Defense, all operations and technical standards were confirmed in this test. The test was conducted under the supervision of the Strategic Forces Command.

What is the specialty and ability of Agni-5?
It is the first and only Inter -Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) in the country to surface to surface. The firepower of Agni-V is more than 5000 km. The whole of China comes in its range, while many parts of Europe and Africa are also in its JD. This missile is equipped with multiple independent targetable re-entry vehicles (MIRV) technology. That is, once it is launched, it can attack several targets simultaneously. Agni-V has the ability to carry nuclear weapons up to one and a half tons. Agni 5 is a major achievement in the field of missile technology. The entire technology of this missile, propulsion system, rocket, advanced navigation is 100 percent indigenous.

Its speed is Mac 24, which is 24 times more than the speed of voice. The launching system of this missile is based on canister technology. For this reason, it can be easily transported anywhere. Currently, apart from India, only eight countries of the world have Inter Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM). These include Russia, America, China, France, Israel, Britain and North Korea.

Agni-5 capable of carrying several warheads simultaneously
The Agni-5 missile is equipped with an advanced MIRV (Multiple Independent-Targeteable Re-Eti-Honor Vehicle) technology. Common missiles carry only a warhead (ie the portion of the missile which is filled with explosives), but the MIRV missiles can carry several warheads simultaneously. Its biggest feature is that many targets located hundreds of kilometers from the same missile can be attacked. Not only this, many warheads can be fired together on the same target if needed.
