Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to the motion of thanks on President Draupadi Murmu’s address in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday (5 February 2026). He said that when we took over the reins of the government in 2014, India was counted among the five weak economies. The Prime Minister said that at the time of independence we were the sixth largest economy in the world, but under the Congress government our ranking dropped to 11th place.
India moving towards third largest economy: PM Modi
PM Modi said, ‘Now we are on the path to becoming the third largest economy in the world. He said, ‘The biggest thing is that even the most prosperous countries of the world are becoming old. The population there has reached that stage of age, which we know as elderly. Our country is such that it is reaching new heights of development and at the same time our country is becoming younger day by day. This is a country with a young population. Just as the world’s attraction towards India has increased, the world is also understanding the importance of India’s talent.
India has youth talent pool: PM Modi
PM Modi said, ‘Today we have a very important young talent pool of the world, which has dreams, determination and capabilities. The blessings of Shakti are with us. India remains a country that provides solutions to the challenges that are arising in the world today. He said, ‘India is making trade agreements with many countries around the world. Recently we have completed 9 such agreements. The most important of these agreements, often called the Mother of All Deals, has been signed with the 27 member states of the European Union.
India was the 11th economy: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, ‘Today India’s growth in major economy is very high. High growth and low inflation, this is a unique combination. This demonstrates the strength of our economy. He said that when the country got independence, we were the number six economy in the world, but these people maintained such a situation that we reached number 11. Today we are moving at a fast pace towards reaching number 3. Today India is full of confidence in every field.
