A vegetable shopkeeper was asked by the Income Tax Department to send a GST notice of Rs 29 lakh for transactions of 1.63 crore during the last four years. These shopkeepers used to bring fresh vegetables directly from the farmers and sell them at their shop.

GST notice increased difficulties

Joint Commissioner of Commercial Tax Meera Suresh Pandit told the news agency PTI that whatever GST tax notices are being sent is not the final tax. Those who are being sent taxes, they can claim their claims with their documents.

He said that if the answer is satisfactory or if the GST Act does not come under the purview of goods and service tax, then the notice will be withdrawn.
