There has been a big disclosure in the assembly about malnutrition in Madhya Pradesh. In response to a question about malnutrition, the government said that only 8 rupees are spent on the nutrition given to malnourished children. At the same time, this amount is Rs 12 per day for seriously malnourished children.
Opposition’s question – What will be available for 8 rupees?
Congress MLA Vikrant Bhuria targeted the government over this amount. He asked “When the milk is Rs 70 a liter, how will the child get nutrition for 8 rupees?” He alleged that officers have breakfast of thousands of rupees in meetings, but the government is giving only 8 rupees for poor children. In one of his X post, he said, “What will be available for 8 rupees? Half does not fill the stomach… and the government says that it will remove malnutrition.” Vikrant Bhuria is an MLA from Jhabua seat. They come from the tribal community. He is also the president of the tribal Congress.
Malnutrition figures are shocking
At present, 1.36 lakh children in the state are struggling with malnutrition, of which 29,830 children are seriously malnourished, while 1.06 lakh are moderately malnourished. The national malnutrition rate is 5.40 percent, while in Madhya Pradesh it is 7.79 percent, it is much higher than average.
The worst in tribal districts
One in every four children in tribal dominated districts like Sheopur, Dhar, Barwani, Khargone, Chhindwara and Balaghat has been found malnourished.
Women minister also accepted the matter
Women and Child Development Minister Nirmala Bhuria also admitted that “the amount given on the nutrition of children is very low”. He informed that more budget has been demanded from the central government.
