8th Pay Commission: A big news is coming out regarding the 8th Pay Commission for central employees and pensioners. A meeting of the National Council (Staff Side), Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM) was held on Wednesday (February 25, 2026) in the national capital Delhi. Many important issues were discussed in it like increasing the family unit from 3 to 5, guaranteeing at least 5 promotions for employees, increasing the annual increment and re-implementing the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) in the 8th Pay Commission (8th CPC), etc.
Apart from these, other topics discussed included preparing answers to 18 questions of CPC, increasing the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) charges from Rs 1,000 to Rs 20,000 per month for non-CGHS cities and including allowance for essential services like internet.
Employees’ demands will be sent to JCM
Representatives of many employee organizations like Defence, Railways, Postal Service, Income Tax Department, Accounts and Audit participated in this meeting held on Wednesday. Quoting C Sreekumar, Secretary General of All India Defense Employees Federation (AIDEF), ET said, in the meeting, efforts were made to build consensus on issues like minimum basic pay, promotion policy, annual increment etc. In the coming days, different employee associations will send their demands related to the 8th Pay Commission to the JCM. In the next 10 to 15 days, a common memorandum will be prepared by all the associations.
What is JCM?
Let us tell you that JCM (Joint Consultative Machinery) is an official platform of communication between the Government of India and the employees. In such a situation, its important role under the Eighth Pay Commission cannot be denied. Under this, the staff side of JCM is drafting the demands of the employees for the Eighth Pay Commission and placing them before the government.

Now the meeting is scheduled for March 10
Manjit Singh Patel, representing the Central Government Employees Confederation in NC-JCM, said that after the JCM prepares a common memorandum regarding the demands of the employees, it will be submitted to the 8th Pay Commission Chairperson Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai. It was also informed in the report that a meeting has been scheduled on March 10 to discuss the common memorandum. After this, it can be sent to the 8th Commission in the next 1-2 weeks. Issues like minimum pay, fitment factor and pensioners are in focus in the NC-JCM meeting.
