A new history has been written in Ranji Trophy. Assam and Services have become the shortest ending match in Ranji history. This was the shortest Ranji Trophy match in its 63-year history, which ended in just 90 overs. Riyan Parag gave a tremendous all-round performance in this match, yet he could not stop Services from registering an 8 wicket victory. This was Services’ second consecutive win in the 2025-26 season.
The match ended in just 90 overs
Assam batted 17.2 overs in the first innings, in which it could score only 103 runs. The condition of the Services team was also very bad, but somehow, thanks to Irfan Khan’s inning of 51 runs, it scored 108 runs. Services played 29.2 overs in the first innings. The two innings were over in just 46.4 overs.
When Assam’s second innings came, it batted 29.3 overs, but this time it could score only 75 runs. Services got the target of 71 runs on the basis of a lead of five runs in the first innings. Services achieved this small target by losing two wickets in just 13.5 overs. The entire match ended in exactly 90 overs, which is equal to 540 balls.
25 wickets fell on the first day and the remaining 7 wickets fell in the morning session of the second day. Earlier, the match which ended in the fewest balls was played between Delhi and Railways in 1962, which ended in 547 balls.
Assam lost, but Riyan Parag shined
Riyan Parag plays for Assam in domestic cricket. In the first innings he played an innings of 36 runs in 31 balls. When it came to bowling, he played an important role in reducing Services to 108 runs by taking 5 wickets. He could score only 12 runs in the second innings, but Riyan Parag also took both the wickets in the second innings of Services. Along with scoring 48 runs in the entire match, he also took 7 wickets.
