The sky will wreak havoc on the enemies! Drone platoon ready in every battalion of army, showed strength on PAK border

After Pakistan’s drone attack in Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army has now created a special drone platoon in all the infantry battalions. On Friday (October 24, 2025), in the presence of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, the Army presented its special ‘Ashni’ (Ashni) platoon to the world.

In mythological history, ‘Ashni’ is considered to be the weapon of Devraj Indra, which is also known as Bajra. There are 20 soldiers in the Ashni Platoon of the Indian Army, who have been trained in hovering munitions including FPV, surveillance drones and swarm drones.

Capable of carrying hand grenades

FPV i.e. ‘First Person View’ drones were used extensively during the Russia-Ukraine war. These drones are capable of carrying hand grenades along with surveillance. Swarm drone is a group of many small drones, which can attack a convoy of tanks or vehicles along with a group of enemy soldiers. In Loating Munition, the drone is equipped with a high explosive bomb. Like a functioning drone, it gets destroyed on its target and causes tremendous damage to the enemy.

India foiled Pakistan’s drone attack

During Operation Sindoor, Pakistan carried out drone attacks from Siachen to Leh-Ladakh and from Punjab to Rajasthan and Rann of Kutch (Gujarat). Although the army had completely foiled Pakistan’s drone attack, only after this the army prepared a plan to raise a drone platoon in every infantry battalion.

This year, on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas (26 July), Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi had announced the formation of Ashni Drone Platoon and Bhairav Commando Battalion. In just three months, the Army has raised an Ashni drone platoon in every infantry battalion. There are 380 infantry battalions in the army with about 13 lakh soldiers.
