Chhath 2025 Kharna Prasad: Today is the second day of Chhath Mahaparva, which is known as Kharna. This day is considered very sacred and full of faith. On this day, the devotees keep a waterless fast throughout the day and in the evening, traditionally prepare prasad of kheer made of jaggery and roti, which is cooked with mango wood on an earthen stove.
After this, the Sun God is worshiped by offering Prasad, then the devotees take this Prasad. The 36-hour waterless fast starts after the devotee accepts the Prasad.
Method of offering Kharna Prasad
- When the sun starts setting in the evening, the devotees take bath and wear pure clothes and the place of worship is purified with Ganga water. After that, jaggery and rice kheer and wheat roti are made on the new stove.
- Special care is taken of purity while making this Prasad. In which new clay or brass utensils are used.
- After the kheer and roti prasad is made, it is placed on banana leaves. Banana, milk and other fruits are also kept as Prasad. Then the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya are remembered by lighting a lamp.
- After offering it to the Sun God, the devotee will consume the Prasad, after which it will be distributed among other members of the family.
- As soon as the Prasad is accepted, the fast of 36 hours of rigorous waterless fasting begins, which continues till Usha Arghya.
Importance of Prasad
Kharna’s kheer and roti are not just food, but a symbol of devotion and reverence. By distributing it among the entire family by the fasting person, happiness, prosperity and peace remain in the house. It is a popular belief that the devotee who prepares and offers this Prasad with a true heart, negativity is removed from his life and he also receives the immense blessings of Mother Chhathi.
