Team India’s star batsman and ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer is currently admitted in a Sydney hospital after suffering a serious injury during the Sydney ODI. He has been kept in ICU (Intensive Care Unit). The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has now released an official medical update regarding his health, in which it has been said that Shreyas’ condition is stable and he is gradually moving towards improvement.
Serious injury during Sydney ODI
The third ODI was played between India and Australia in Sydney on 25 October. During this match, while fielding, Shreyas Iyer fell while trying to catch Alex Carey and got badly injured. Immediately after the fall, he screamed in pain and was taken off the field.
BCCI issued a statement saying, “Shreyas Iyer suffered an injury below his left rib while fielding in the Sydney ODI. After examination, it was found that there was a cut in his spleen. He was immediately admitted to the hospital and his treatment is going on there.”
BCCI gave news of relief
The board further said that Shreyas Iyer’s condition is now stable and he is recovering. He is being monitored under the supervision of the Indian medical team and specialist doctors from Sydney. BCCI also said that the Indian team doctor will stay with Shreyas in Sydney and will assess his recovery daily.
Will remain in hospital for a week
According to news agency PTI, Shreyas Iyer will be kept hospitalized for at least a week. After this, depending on his condition, it will be decided for how long he will stay away from cricket. At present the board has not given any definite date of return.

Shreyas Iyer’s injury is a big blow for Team India. He was in excellent form and was also the vice-captain of the ODI team on the recent Australia tour. He had performed brilliantly in the three-match series.
