According to scientists from Australia and Canada, when we watch scary movies, our brain feels the condition of danger in a safe environment. This teaches our brain how to control fear. Due to which we are able to handle ourselves better in stressful situations of real life.

Apart from this, a research has found that people who watch horror movies regularly have more ability to deal with difficult situations. During the Corona epidemic, such people were found to be more calm and mentally stronger than others.

In a psychology study, horror fans have been divided into three groups, including Adrenaline Junkies who watch movies for the thrill and entrance of fear. Second are White Knucklers who want to get the feeling of conquering fear and third are Dark Coppers who adopt fear to reduce the tension of real life.

Actually, horror movies activate the fight or flight response in us. That is, how will the body react in times of fear. But when we experience it in a safe environment through films, our brain gradually learns to recognize and control fear.

In a research conducted in the Netherlands, children were fed a video game in which they got a positive reward for remaining calm in a scary environment. The result of this research was that the children who learned to face fear and keep themselves calm, their anxiety also reduced.

Experts say that feeling fear in a controlled environment, i.e. while watching a movie, gives a cognitive exercise to our mind. It trains the brain to deal with stressful conditions in the real world.

In such a situation, if you want to start watching horror movies, then you should start with low horror level movies. For this you can watch films like The Others, A Quiet Place, The Sixth Sense, Get Out or Train to Busan.
