The administration has issued new orders regarding keeping dogs in Chandigarh. The administration has issued the notification of ‘Pet and Community Dog Bylaws’. According to this, if a registered dog defecates in the open, a fine of Rs 10,000 will be imposed on the owner. Along with this, the Municipal Corporation has banned keeping dogs of American Bull Dog, American Pitbull, Pitbull Terrier, Bull Terrier, Cane Corso, Dogo Argentino and Rottweiler breeds at home. Now dog lovers will not be able to keep these breeds.

However, those who already have dogs of these breeds have been given exemption and orders have been given to register these dogs within 45 days. If a complaint of ill-treatment of a dog is received, a team will go to the house and collect evidence. If the complaint is found to be true then the dog can be seized, legal action and fine can also be imposed on the owner under Cruelty Against Animals.

The number of dogs to be kept is fixed according to the household.

The Municipal Corporation has also fixed the number of dogs to be kept according to the size of the house. Only one dog can be kept in a house up to 5 marla and if a 5 marla house has three floors and different families live in it, then they can keep one dog each separately. Owners of houses up to 10 marla can keep two dogs, while owners of houses up to 12 marla can keep three dogs. Four dogs can be reared in a house of up to one kanal.

Registration is mandatory in Chandigarh Municipal Corporation

It will be mandatory to register every dog ​​with Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. Registration fee for one dog will be Rs 500. After every five years, Rs 50 will have to be paid for renewal. It is also necessary to put a metal token and leash around the neck of the registered dog. If the dog is found without registration, it can be impounded by the Municipal Corporation. If more than one family lives on different floors in a house, then separate registration will have to be done for each family as per the prescribed limit.

Where can you not take a pet dog?

The administration has also decided some places in the city where pet dogs cannot be taken. Chandigarh has Sukhna Lake, Rose Garden, Shanti Kunj, Laser Valley, Mini Rose Garden, Terrace Garden, Shivalik Garden, Botanical Garden and M.C. There will be a ban on taking dogs to public places and parks notified by the Govt. Strict provisions have also been made regarding dogs roaming in the streets.
