Rajesh Banik was 40 years old, he died in Anandanagar, West Tripura. There is a wave of mourning in the cricket world due to the demise of Rajesh. Rajesh has played with players like Irfan Pathan, Ambati Rayudu. Tripura Cricket Association Secretary Subrata Dey expressed condolences on the demise of Rajesh Banik.
Cricketer dies in road accident
Media reports quoting officials said that Rajesh was badly injured in a road accident, after which he was admitted to GBP Hospital in Agartala but he could not be saved. He also played for Tripura in Ranji Trophy.
The report quoted Tripura Cricket Association Secretary Subrata Dey as saying, ‘It is very sad that we have lost a talented cricketer and selector of the Under-16 cricket team. We are shocked, may his soul rest in peace. He has been one of our most brilliant all-rounders, but very few people know that he had the ability to easily identify talented young players. This was the reason why he was made the selector of the state’s Under-16 team.
40-year-old Rajesh Banik had scored 1469 runs in 42 first class matches in his cricket career, he also had 2 wickets in his name. Apart from this, he played 24 List A matches, in which he scored 378 runs and took 8 wickets. He scored 203 runs in 18 T20 matches. He played his last match in Ranji Trophy in 2018, which was against Odisha.
