Maida is made from wheat flour by extracting its fiber and nutrients. Neither vitamins nor minerals are left in it. That means it only provides calories, not nutrition. This is why it is called “empty calories”.

According to experts, frequent consumption of flour increases blood sugar rapidly. This causes insulin resistance and increases the risk of type-2 diabetes. Continuously high insulin levels increase inflammation and oxidative stress in the body.

This inflammation damages the cells in the long run. Research shows that persistent inflammation can also increase the risk of cancer cells growing, especially in colon and breast cancer.

Bleaching agents like benzoyl peroxide are often used in flour, which makes its color white. These chemicals are considered harmful for the body and can affect the liver.

Eating too much flour also increases stomach problems, like gas, constipation and flatulence. Because it does not contain fiber, the intestinal movement slows down.

Experts say that it is not necessary to give up flour completely, but limit its quantity. Try to use wheat, jowar or millet flour instead of refined flour.

Eating a balanced diet, fiber-rich grains and fresh fruits and vegetables keeps the body healthy and also reduces the risk of diseases like cancer.
