Voting is taking place today on 121 seats in the first phase of Bihar Assembly elections 2025. There has been influence of strongmen in the politics of the state for a long time. In this election also, either strongmen from different parties are standing on many seats or their relatives are contesting the elections. Among them, JDU candidate Anant Singh from Mokama seat and Veena Devi, wife of Surajbhan Singh from RJD are also face to face.
Ritlal Yadav is contesting from Danapur seat. There are many other such seats in the first phase of elections where leaders with the image of Bahubali are trying their luck in this election. Let us try to know the criminal records and many other details of these musclemen.
Mokama (Patna District)
From here, Anant Singh, known as Bahubali, is contesting from JDU. Whereas RJD has given ticket to Veena Devi, wife of Bahubali leader Suraj Bhan Singh.
Anant Singh
- Known as ‘small government’
- Anant Singh has been involved in dozens of criminal cases in the last few years.
- Number of cases in 2025 – Severe IPC: 46, Severe BNS: 8, Other IPC: 37, Other BNS: 1
- Currently – in 14 days judicial custody in connection with the murder of Jan Suraj Party supporter Dular Chand Yadav.
- The first criminal case against him dates back to May 1979, when he was booked in a murder case. However, the charge sheet was never filed.
Veena Devi
- She has been an MP of the 16th Lok Sabha from Munger constituency of Bihar. Her husband is don-turned-politician Surajbhan Singh.
- Suraj Bhan himself could not contest the elections due to his conviction in a murder case.
- Surajbhan Singh (60) was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2008 in a murder case that took place in neighboring Begusarai district in 1992.
Ekma (Saran District)
Manoranjan Singh alias Dhumal Singh (JDU) – Bahubali MLA
- Currently MLA from Ekma
- 2018 – Accused of being involved in an extortion racket related to iron ore transportation in Bokaro.
- Before 2000 – Involved in several alleged criminal activities in several states of India
- No criminal case – 2025 affidavit
Danapur (Patna)
Reet Lal Roy (Yadav) – is the current MLA. Was in jail and recently came out on bail. Contesting elections on RJD ticket.
- Total cases in 2025 – Severe IPC: 10, Severe BNS: 8, Other IPC: 9, Other BNS: 2
- Multiple charges including murder, extortion, rioting and criminal intimidation
Kuchayakot (Gopalganj District)
Amarendra Pandey (JDU) – is the current MLA and this time also the party has expressed confidence in him.
- Total cases in 2025 – Severe IPC: 20, Severe BNS: 1, Other IPC: 28, Other BNS: 0
- Several cases related to murder, attempt to murder, wrongful restraint, house trespass, land grabbing, extortion, robbery and possession of illegal arms and ammunition are pending against him.
- He has been a five-time MLA from Kuchayakot assembly constituency of Gopalganj district.
Sahebganj (Muzaffarpur District)
- Raju Kumar Singh (BJP) – is contesting elections and has more than 10 criminal cases registered against him.
- Total cases in 2025 – Severe IPC: 10, Severe BNS: 0, Other IPC: 19, Other BNS: 0
- Several criminal cases including Arms Act and murder are registered against him.
Brahmapur (Buxar District)
Hulas Pandey (LJP – Ram Vilas) – Brother of Bahubali leader Sunil Pandey.
- 2023 – CBI had filed a charge sheet against him in a sensational murder case of 2012.
- Hulas Pandey’s controversial past also includes his involvement in the Brahmeshwar Mukhiya murder case.
- 2024 – The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had raided the properties of former State Council member Hulas Pandey in the disproportionate assets case.
- Hulas Pandey is the brother of former JDU MLA Sunil Pandey, who is considered a strong leader in Bihar politics.
Sandesh (Bhojpur District)
Radha Charan Sah (JDU) – Bahubali is contesting MLC elections.
- Total cases in 2025 – Severe IPC: 3, Severe BNS: 0, Other IPC: 4, Other BNS: 0
- 2024 – ED attached 02 immovable properties worth Rs 26.19 crore acquired by Bihar Legislative Council MLC Radha Charan Sah under PMLA, 2002 in money laundering case.
- ED’s investigation has revealed that illegal sale and mining of sand was mainly controlled by a syndicate.
- Being a member of the syndicate, Radha Charan Sah earned huge amount of criminal income through M/s Broadsons Commodities Private Limited, which was involved in illegal sale of sand.
Who are the relatives of the strongmen contesting the elections?
Lalganj (Vaishali District)
- Shivani Shukla (RJD) – Daughter of Bahubali Munna Shukla
- Shivani’s father Vijay Kumar Shukla, popularly known as Munna Shukla, has been a three-time MLA.
- His ‘bahubali’ father is in jail on charges of murder of former minister Brij Bihari.
Manjhi (Saran District)
- Randhir Kumar Singh (JDU) – son of Bahubali Prabhunath Singh.
- Son of former RJD MP Prabhunath Singh (also in various political parties)
- Prabhunath Singh is currently serving life imprisonment in a murder case.
- On 23 May 2017, Prabhunath Singh was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Hazaribagh court in the case of murder of MLA Ashok Singh 22 years ago.
Tarari (Bhojpur district)
- Vishal Prashant (BJP) – son of powerful MLA Sunil Pandey.
- His father Sunil Pandey was a powerful leader who had a doctorate degree. He has been MLA from Bhojpur district four times and has been given the credit of winning elections four times.
- Sunil Pandey has been involved in several criminal cases over the years, including murder, extortion and kidnapping.
- He is also accused of giving contract for the murder of Mukhtar Ansari, a criminal who has recently entered the politics of Uttar Pradesh.
Baniyapur (Saran District)
- Kedarnath Singh (BJP) – Brother of Bahubali Prabhunath Singh.
- Total cases in 2025 – Severe IPC: 11, Severe BNS: 0, Other IPC: 14, Other BNS: 0
- Prabhunath Singh is currently serving a life sentence in a murder case
Sandesh (Bhojpur District)
- Deepu Singh (RJD) – son of Bahubali MLA Arun Yadav.
- Deepu is the son of current Sandesh MLA Kiran Devi and former MLA Arun Yadav.
- His father Arun Yadav had 13 criminal cases registered against him including murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping and extortion.
- Arun Kumar Yadav is accused of raping a minor girl in Arrah on 18 July 2019.
