Indian player Axar Patel, who impressed with his all-round game in the fourth T20 International against Australia, said that he learned from his ‘past mistakes’ and did not let the size of the boundary dictate his shot selection.
Akshar scored unbeaten 21 runs in 11 balls with the help of one four and one six. During this time, he made an important contribution in taking the team’s score to 167 runs by hitting fours and sixes on consecutive balls against Marcus Stoinis in the last over. Akshar also did wonders with the ball and took two wickets. India won this match by 48 runs and took an unassailable 2-1 lead in the series.
Akshar, who was chosen ‘Player of the Match’, told ‘BCCI TV’, “Obviously, I knew it would be difficult because wickets were falling continuously. The message I got from the dressing room was that I had to stand at the crease for the last over because there was no batsman after me.
The 31-year-old all-rounder said, “I thought I would take a risk in the last over. The distance to the side boundary was more but I thought that if I maintain my rhythm and keep an eye on the ball, I can send the ball across the boundary.
He said, “I have felt in the past also that if I had thought about the size of the boundary, I would not have played shots on that side. In such a situation, it became a pre-decided shot and I used to make mistakes. I improved my shots here by learning from past mistakes.
The fifth and last T20 match of the series will be played in Brisbane on Saturday.
