It was his habit to listen to songs of artists like Bade Ghulam Ali Khan on the radio at home. His interest in music was so deep that at the age of only nine he performed his first stage show.

In the initial days he got only Rs 750. Later it increased to Rs 1500 per month, at that time it was considered better for a female singer to get this much amount as salary.
