Meanwhile, defending his tariff policy, Trump said, “Those who are against tariffs are fools! Now we are the richest and most respected country in the world, where inflation is negligible and the stock market is at record levels. Plans like 401k (retirement savings scheme) are at the highest level ever.”
Citing record investment and factory growth, he said America is earning trillions of dollars and will soon start paying off its huge debt of $37 trillion.
indiscriminate earnings from tariffs
Earlier, Trump government officials had estimated that his tariff policy could earn the government more than $300 billion every year. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has also said that America can gain up to $50 billion every month from tariffs. According to data released by the US Treasury Department, the government earned $26.6 billion from tariffs in the month of June alone. The White House said that by July 29, 2025, more than $ 150 billion was earned from tariffs.
