After Bihar Assembly elections, a new controversy has arisen in politics. Jan Suraj has raised questions on the NDA government saying that the amount of Rs 10,000 sent to the women’s accounts just before the voting was used by the state government by withdrawing it from the funds received from the World Bank for some other project. Jan Suraj spokesperson Pawan Verma claims that this money was sent to the accounts shortly before the implementation of the Election Code of Conduct, which had a deep impact on the election environment.
Verma says that this amount was transferred only about an hour ago and many reliable sources informed him about it. Although he also admitted that the truth of this allegation is not completely clear, but if it is proved to be factually correct then it will raise ethical questions on the entire election. Because this scheme of Rs 10,000 reached 1.25 crore women voters and its political impact was being felt by all parties during the elections.
World Bank Fund and Bihar’s increasing debt
In the same sequence, Pawan Verma also said that the debt of the state has increased rapidly and has now reached above Rs 4 lakh crore and a huge amount has to be paid every day in the form of interest. According to him, due to the empty treasury of the government, the help of external funds was taken to send such a huge amount before the elections. He also alleged that a message was spread among the women that if the NDA did not return to power, further funds would be stopped.
Women vote bank and changing nature of electoral equation
Women are continuously playing a decisive role in the politics of Bihar. In the last many elections, women’s voting has been more than men and that is why women’s welfare appears at the forefront of government schemes. Schemes like gas, health, ration and sending money directly into accounts have built a trust in the government among women voters, which influenced the results this time too. Pawan Verma says that this political trust made the path of new options like Jan Suraj difficult. They call it part of electoral economics, where economic aid and political decisions are directly linked to each other.
Free schemes and political contradictions
Verma also pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself has criticized free politics many times. But in Bihar elections, sending huge amount directly into the accounts of women was the same type of strategy, which was used for political gains. He said that this contradiction was a topic of discussion among the general public and NDA gained electoral edge through this.
Jan Suraj’s stand and political debate on prohibition
On Jan Suraj’s defeat, it was also said that Prashant Kishor had talked about changes in liquor prohibition when he came to power, which alienated women voters. Rejecting this claim, Pawan Verma said that liquor is available illegally in almost every area of the state and this has increased the problems of the family. According to him, it has a direct impact on women, hence the issue of prohibition cannot be the reason for Jan Suraj’s defeat.
Jan Suraj’s defeat and election logic
Jan Suraj got good overall vote percentage, but did not get even a single seat. Verma attributed this to the changing vote pattern due to Rs 10,000 given to women, NDA’s strong women-centric schemes and the traditional political structure of Bihar. He says that vote percentage and winning seats in Bihar are two completely different things and this election has made this clear.
