S Jaishankar expressed grief over the demise of Micronesia’s Foreign Secretary, know what he said

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday (November 16) expressed condolences on the demise of Micronesia Foreign Secretary Lorin S. Roberts. “I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Secretary of State for Micronesia Lorin S. Roberts. I offer my condolences to his family and the people of Micronesia,” he said in a post on Twitter.

Earlier on November 3, S Jaishankar had greeted the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) on their Independence Day. “Happy Independence Day to Secretary of State Lorin S. Roberts and the Government and people of the Federated States of Micronesia,” he said in a post on Twitter. There are friendly relations between India and Micronesia.

Project for Pacific Island Countries
A project titled 7 Climate Early Warning Systems for Pacific Island Countries (PICs) is in progress under India-UNDP funds. It aims to increase the capacity of the governments of the seven Pacific Island countries to prepare for, respond to, and recover from climate-related disasters.

India is helping FSM in solar energyization
India is assisting the FSM to strengthen the national gender machinery of Micronesia through a UNDP fund worth US$ 1 million. India is also assisting FSM in solarizing the residences/offices of the Heads of State under UNDP funds as a part of the project on Solarizing the Residences/Offices of the Heads of State in all Pacific Islands.

India hosted the India-Pacific Islands Cooperation Forum
In September, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar hosted the Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM) of the Forum on India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) in New York to discuss progress on the 12-point action plan for the FIPIC-III summit. The meeting, organized on the occasion of the 80th United Nations General Assembly, highlighted India’s role as a development partner of Pacific Island countries, focusing on health, technology, capacity building and training.
