Swollen Feet Causes: If you are repeatedly facing the problem of swelling in feet and toes, then keep in mind that recurring swelling in feet and toes is not just an ordinary problem. This can be a sign of many hidden diseases. Swelling can also occur due to reasons like chronic vein insufficiency and deep vein thrombosis. Apart from this, problems related to heart, liver and kidney can also cause swelling in the feet. Infections like lymphedema or cellulitis also cause swelling in the legs. Therefore, taking such swelling lightly can be dangerous. It is important to see a doctor on time. Let us tell you what problems can occur due to this.

What does this sign of persistent swelling in the legs mean?

If there is frequent swelling in your feet, ankles or toes, then it is a clear message from the body that some internal problem is increasing. Many people consider it to be a result of aging or excessive movement, whereas the real reason can be much more serious, such as heart disease, liver or kidney related problems.

Let us understand the reasons one by one:

Chronic vein insufficiency or varicose veins

We stand straight, so the weight of the blood of the body falls the most on the veins of the legs. The valves present in the veins work to send blood back up to the heart.
But when these valves start weakening, blood starts collecting below and problems like swelling, varicose veins, pain and sometimes cramps start.

heart related problems

The heart is directly connected to every part of the body. The blood from the legs returns back to the heart through there. If the heart is not working properly, blood starts accumulating in the legs and swelling and pain start occurring. Some other symptoms may also appear along with this:

  • Chest pain
  • breathlessness
  • increased heartbeat

These signs may indicate heart disease.

deep vein thrombosis

When a blood clot forms in a deep vein of the leg, it is called DVT. This is a very dangerous condition because its symptoms appear like this-

  • Vein swelling
  • pain and tenderness
  • red or hot skin
  • legs feel heavy

If the clot breaks and reaches the lungs, it can cause a fatal condition like pulmonary embolism. Therefore, it is important to consult a doctor immediately for such swelling.

liver or kidney disease

Due to liver problem, the stomach and legs start filling with water. Along with this, signs like redness in hands, yellowing of skin or pale colored stool can also be seen. In case of kidney failure, swelling of legs, fatigue, frequent urination and difficulty in concentrating can be seen.
