Big upset due to India’s defeat in World Test Championship points table, Pakistan also got a shock, Eden Garden Test changed the equation.


World Test Championship: The first match of the two-match Test series played at the historic Eden Garden in Kolkata has brought a big upheaval in the points table of the World Test Championship (WTC). In this thrilling match, India had to face defeat against South Africa by 30 runs, and this defeat had a direct impact on the ranking of Team India. While the match will be remembered for the lethal bowling of the bowlers, for India this result proved to be a big blow in the race for the WTC.

The match was named after the bowlers

The bowlers dominated the match from the first day. India made a great start and restricted South Africa to just 159 runs in the first innings. Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah troubled the Proteas batsmen with excellent line-length. In reply, India scored 189 runs and took a lead of 30 runs. Due to which the balance of the match was completely tilted in favor of Team India.

But the story changed from here. In the second innings, the South African batsmen showed restraint and made a fighting score of 155. India had got an easy target of 124 runs, but in front of the fiery balls of the South African bowlers, the Indian batting fell apart like a pack of cards. The entire team was all out for just 93 runs and India lost the match by 30 runs.

Big upset in WTC points table

After this defeat of India, there were huge changes in the table:

1- India’s point percentage dropped to 54.17.

2- The team slipped from third position to fourth position.

Losing the match despite being in a strong position caused a huge loss to Team India. On the other hand, South Africa has got a big benefit from this victory.

1- His percentage has increased to 66.67.

2- Despite having equal points with Sri Lanka, South Africa moved from fifth to second position on the basis of more wins.

Shock to Pakistan also

The heat of India’s defeat reached Pakistan. Due to turmoil in the table, Pakistan team slipped from fourth to fifth position. That means three teams – India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan have suffered the loss of one place each. At the same time, Australia is firmly in first place with 3 wins in 3 matches.

Now pressure on India increases

After trailing 0-1 in the series, there is pressure on India to level the score by winning the second test. Another defeat can deeply hurt Team India’s WTC race.
