Deepfake AI Generated Video: People are being cheated on a large scale in the name of deepfakes. From skincare ads to crypto schemes, people are being duped through AI-generated fake videos. Cyber criminals create deepfake videos of celebrities and show them promoting some product or service, due to which people are suffering huge financial losses.

According to a new report by cyber security firm McAfee, about 90 percent of people in India have become victims of fake or AI-generated advertisements. On an average, a victim suffered a loss of around Rs 34,500. Shahrukh Khan is at the top among the celebrities whose face and voice are being used the most in deepfake videos. After them come veterans like Alia Bhatt and Elon Musk, whose name and identity are being misused for false promotions.
Shahrukh Khan is at first place in the top-10 deepfake list, while Alia Bhatt, Elon Musk, Priyanka Chopra and Cristiano Ronaldo are also included in this list. This means that cyber thugs are trapping everyone from Bollywood to global influencers and sports icons.

Pratim Mukherjee, Senior Director of Engineering at McAfee, says that deepfake technology has completely changed the game for cyber criminals. Now they are not hacking the system, but hacking people’s trust—and that is the biggest threat. However, the threat of deepfake videos is not limited to just brand endorsements, but has gone much beyond that.
In May, Karnataka Police busted a major deepfake scam in which fraudsters used AI-generated photos and videos of US President Donald Trump to promote a fake investment app called ‘Trump Hotel Rental’. Through these deepfake videos, people were being taken into confidence and made to invest. Timely action of the police exposed this fraud.
