All 10 teams have retained a total of 173 players for IPL 2026. Now everyone’s eyes will be on the auction, which is going to be held in Abu Dhabi on 16th December. Only a maximum of 77 players will be able to be sold in the auction, because only so many slots are left after retention, while the total purse of the teams is Rs 237.55 crore. faf du plessis
When RCB released Faf du Plessis before the mega auction, it was a shocking decision. Under his captaincy, RCB reached the playoffs of the 2024 season and he also individually scored 438 runs. But last season, he could score only 202 runs in the entire season for Delhi Capitals. Along with poor performance, his age is also increasing. IPL has seen a unique blend of youth and excitement, so perhaps 41-year-old Faf du Plessis going unsold in the mini auction would not be a surprise.
Mohit Sharma
Mohit Sharma made a comeback to Delhi Capitals after five years. Perhaps even he would not have thought that he would be able to take only 2 wickets in the 8 matches played in the entire season. After 2023, Mohit’s performance has continuously declined. Mohit has not even played domestic matches after IPL 2025. These two aspects can become the reason for them going unsold.

Glenn Maxwell, a player who scored a double century in the World Cup despite having a leg injury. But when it comes to IPL, in the last two seasons he has been able to score only 100 runs after playing 17 matches. In IPL 2025 for Punjab Kings, he scored only 48 runs in 7 matches.
Vijay Shankar
In the IPL 2025 mega auction, CSK showed confidence in Vijay Shankar by buying him for Rs 1.2 crore. But after playing 6 matches in the season, he scored only 118 runs and his strike rate was only 129.67. On the other hand, he had no contribution in bowling. His slow nature of play may make Shankar unsold in the auction.
devon conway
Devon Conway is the same player who scored 672 runs for CSK in IPL 2023 at an amazing average of 51.7. While he could not play in the 2024 season, when he returned in the 2025 season, he scored only 156 runs in 6 matches.
