NDA alliance has won a bumper victory in Bihar Assembly elections 2025. Along with this, NDA is going to form a coalition government in Bihar. On this special occasion, JDU leader Nitish Kumar is going to take oath as CM on Thursday (20 November 2025) at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. Everyone’s eyes are fixed on Nitish Kumar. He will take oath as CM for the 10th time, which is a record in itself. Nitish Kumar, who has been in power continuously since 2005, has seen many political ups and downs in two decades, changed alliances, changed governments, but did not leave the chair.
In the meeting of the legislature party of the NDA alliance, he was unanimously elected leader on Wednesday (19 November 2025), after which he will once again become the CM of Bihar. Nitish Kumar’s journey to the post of CM, which started from March 2000, has now completed almost 19 years and 93 days. During this period, Jitan Ram Manjhi was the Chief Minister only once from May 2014 to February 2015, the rest of the time the command of Bihar remained in the hands of Nitish. However, the thing to note is that if Nitish Kumar completes his tenure once again, then he can hold the record of being the Chief Minister of the country for the longest period. However, he already holds the record of being the Chief Minister of Bihar for the longest period. Behind him are only Shri Krishna Singh, Rabri Devi, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Jagannath Mishra.
Grand swearing in ceremony at Gandhi Maidan
Another term of Nitish Kumar is going to start, which will strengthen his political power once again. A grand swearing-in ceremony is going to be held at Gandhi Maidan in Patna on Thursday, in which Chief Ministers of many states including Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be present. Two Deputy Chief Ministers and about 20 ministers can take oath along with Nitish Kumar. In the recently held assembly elections, BJP won 89 seats and JDU won 85 seats, giving a big victory to NDA. In this assembly elections, RJD got only 25 seats, Congress got 6 and AIMIM got 5 seats.
Longest serving Chief Minister in the country – will Nitish become number 1?
If Nitish Kumar completes his new term, he can reach the top position in the list of leaders who have been Chief Minister for the longest time in the country. The current record is as follows:
India’s longest tenured Chief Minister
Pawan Kumar Chamling (Sikkim) – 24 years 165 days
Naveen Patnaik (Odisha) – 24 years 99 days
Jyoti Basu (West Bengal) – 23 years 137 days
Gegong Apang (Arunachal) – 22 years 250 days
Lal Thanhawla (Mizoram) – 22 years 60 days
Virbhadra Singh (Himachal) – 21 years 13 days
Manik Sarkar (Tripura) – 19 years 363 days

If the next five years pass without any interruption, this record will definitely be in the name of Nitish Kumar.
