A 10th class student committed suicide after being harassed by teachers at Rajendra Place metro station in New Delhi. The student committed suicide by jumping from the metro station. In the suicide note, the 16-year-old student had alleged that he was being harassed by the school staff and had asked for action against the school teachers.
The parents of deceased student Shaurya and other students had demonstrated against the accused teachers. Strict action was demanded from the family members. Action has been taken on the demands made and allegations made in the suicide of the student. The school administration has taken strict action against the teachers and suspended them.
The school administration took this action on the incident
St. Columbus School administration has suspended four teachers in connection with the suicide of a 16-year-old minor student. The names of teachers Manu Kalra (Co-ordinator), Yukti Mahajan (TGT), Julie Varghese (TGT) and Aparajita Pal (Principal) are included in the suspended staff.
This step has been taken by the school administration in view of the seriousness of the matter. Apart from this, a high level committee has also been constituted by the Delhi Government Directorate of Education. There were continuous demands from the family members for action and justice on the death of the student.
Father of deceased Shaurya had filed FIR
Father of deceased Shaurya lodged an FIR in the police station. According to the FIR, Shaurya’s father Pradeep Patil, resident of Karol Bagh, said that his son was under constant mental pressure due to alleged harassment by several teachers.
Patil said that his son often complained that teachers used to scold him, humiliate him and harass him over small things. The FIR states that despite verbal complaints to teachers and the principal, the alleged behavior did not stop.
Shaurya’s father was out of Delhi on the day of the incident.
According to the FIR, on the day of the incident, Patil was in Kolhapur for his mother’s surgery. Shaurya left for school at around 7:15 in the morning. At around 2:45 pm, Patil received a call informing him that his son had been found lying beneath the Rajendra Place metro station.
He directed the caller to take the child to BLK Kapoor Hospital, where doctors later declared him brought dead. It is recorded in the FIR that the boy had allegedly jumped from platform number 2 of the metro station.
