Through which river does the maximum water flow in the country, where does it reach and become the ‘ocean’?

India is a country of huge rivers, but the flow or discharge of every river is different. Some rivers have a wide spread, but the actual flow of water in them is not that much. In such a situation, the real question is which river of India has the highest annual water flow.

The scale for measuring the water of rivers is their average annual flow, which is measured in cubic kilometers per year. On this basis it is decided which river is actually the most powerful in terms of water power, and on this scale only one river has the most dominance in India, and that name is Brahmaputra.

The Brahmaputra originates near Manasarovar in Tibet, where it is called Yarlung Tsangpo. As soon as it enters Arunachal Pradesh, its name becomes Brahmaputra. This river is known all over the world for its huge water volume and ferocity.

Heavy snow melting from the high peaks of the Himalayas, excessive rainfall in North-East India and a huge catchment area, these three factors make the Brahmaputra the largest source of water.

Its annual water flow is estimated to be 600 to 700 cubic kilometers per year, which makes it not only the most powerful of India but also among the most violent rivers of the world.

During floods, this river spreads for several kilometers in a large part of Assam and at many places it seems as if an ocean is flowing, not a river. This is the reason why Brahmaputra is also called ‘Water Power of India’.

Ganga is the most sacred river of India and supports the most population, but in terms of water flow it is far behind the Brahmaputra. The annual water flow of Ganga is considered to be about 400 cubic kilometers, which is much less than that of Brahmaputra.
