Cricketer turned commentator Aakash Chopra has revealed that former England all-rounder Moeen Ali once trolled him. Chopra told that during England’s tour of India in 2016, when he expressed his opinion about Moeen Ali, he was trolled.
Aakash Chopra, while commenting at that time, had pointed out a flaw in Moeen Ali’s batting, which the former England star did not like. This left-handed player scored a century in the fifth and last Test of the series against India and then trolled Aakash Chopra on social media.
Aakash Chopra said on a YouTube channel, “A fellow cricketer trolled me. If fans are trolling you, you get used to it. It happened when I was working for Cricinfo and while doing some analysis, I talked about the problems Moeen Ali was having in playing the short ball. We made a demo which showed why he couldn’t play the short ball. It happened during the Chennai Test and he scored a century later in that match.”
Aakash Chopra further said, “The same evening he made a tweet in which he posted my statistics. He was clearly angry. Since he was a fellow cricketer, I replied to him that at least you have no problem with my analysis. You have a problem with my statistics, I agree, but you did not find any fault in my analysis because now it is my job.”
The former Indian batsman said, “Interestingly, the next morning Ishant Sharma was bowling and India had deployed three fielders in the deep. Bouncers were bowled right from the start. He hit a four and then got out. I thought my point was accepted but of course, I could not go to Moeen and say, look, my analysis was right. However, he later apologised.
