Strong earthquake tremors were felt in Pakistan in the early hours of Friday (November 21), due to which people in many areas got scared and came out of their homes. According to the National Center for Seismology, the intensity of the earthquake was 5.2 on the Richter scale and its center was at a depth of about 135 kilometers from the ground. It is a matter of relief that no information about any damage has been revealed so far.
Earthquake shocks in Afghanistan also
Earthquake tremors were also felt in Afghanistan. India’s National Seismological Center said that the first tremor was recorded at 1.59 pm in Afghanistan at a depth of 190 kilometers. After this, the second and stronger shock came in Pakistan at 3.09 am, whose intensity was 5.2.
Seismologists say that earthquakes occurring at shallow depth are more dangerous than earthquakes occurring at depth. This is because shallow earthquake waves reach the ground surface very quickly. Due to this, the ground shakes strongly and there is a possibility of major damage to the buildings. The areas of Afghanistan, Pakistan and North India fall in the most active earthquake zone of the world. Here the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates collide with each other, hence both mild and strong earthquakes occur in this area.
Why is Pakistan vulnerable to earthquakes?
Pakistan is built on many major fault lines. In such a situation, there is always a danger of earthquake here and its effect reaches the neighboring countries also. Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan lie on the southern part of the Eurasian Plate, while Punjab and Sindh lie on the northwestern part of the Indian Plate. Due to this, earthquake tremors are felt repeatedly in these areas.

Balochistan is most sensitive because it is close to the active border line of the Arabian and Eurasian plates. Punjab also experiences earthquakes from time to time due to its tectonic position. The danger in Sindh is slightly less, but due to being on the edge of the plate, this area is also not completely safe from the effects of earthquakes.
