Canada’s strict policies shatter job dreams, increased restrictions on foreign workers and long wait for visas

Indian applicants have to wait for 99 days for visas and there is a hold of up to 6 months on super visas.

According to government data, only more than 2 lakh 2 thousand workers will be able to reach Canada by the end of 2025, whereas the target was about 3 lakh 68 thousand. The entry numbers for both the Temporary Foreign Worker Program and the International Mobility Program are continuously falling.

According to reports, only 1.54 lakh workers got entry from January to August. Estimates show that the government’s target will not be achieved even by the end of the year by combining TFWP and IMP.

The government has decided to reduce the number of temporary residents in 2024 and 2025. For this reason, strict restrictions are being imposed on foreign workers. LMIA is frozen for low-wage jobs in unemployment areas.

New salary conditions were implemented for higher paying jobs. Limit on PGWP, strict language rules, strict rules on intra-company transfer, all this has further reduced the entry of foreign workers.

The government has also imposed restrictions on spousal open work permits. This has made it difficult for companies to recruit also. Many foreign workers are postponing their plans to go to Canada and companies are also reducing hiring.
