Will Shreyas Iyer play in the ODI series against South Africa or not? Big reveal on return date

Shreyas Iyer may stay away from the cricket field for a long time. According to a recent report, Iyer has been advised to avoid excessive workout. According to India Today, Iyer may take at least 2 months to recover. He was injured during the ODI series against Australia, when he fell on the ground on his chest while taking a catch. After this he had to be admitted to the hospital immediately.

Shreyas Iyer was treated for a few days in Sydney (Australia), but he has now returned to India. Popular sports medicine specialist Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala had done his USG scan. The investigation report revealed that Iyer is making a very good recovery, but he needs more time to become fully fit.

Will be fit in 2-3 months!

He has been allowed to do his daily work and has also been advised to do light exercise. Doctors have given him special advice not to do any work which puts pressure on his stomach. He will undergo another scan next week, and after 2 months of recovery, he will be able to start the rehabilitation process at BCCI’s Center of Excellence.

This means it may take them at least 3 months to play a cricket match. He may miss not only South Africa but also the ODI series against New Zealand. India vs New Zealand ODI series will be played from January 11-January 18.

Let us tell you that even before the series against Australia, Shreyas Iyer was appointed vice-captain of the ODI team. It will also be worth seeing whether Shreyas Iyer is fully fit and able to play in IPL 2026 or not.
