Eggs are the favorite food of people of all ages all over the world. These are not only tasty but also a treasure trove of nutrition. Many essential nutrients like protein, vitamins, minerals and good fat are found in eggs, which make the body strong. It is often said that egg white is good for weight loss and building muscles, while the yolk i.e. the yellow part of the egg is full of nutrients. It contains vitamins A, D, E, B12, choline, and healthy fats, which are beneficial for the brain, eyes and bones. But often people are confused whether every person can eat egg yolk. Consuming egg yolk can be harmful for some people. So let us know why the yellow part of eggs should not be eaten, what are the disadvantages and benefits of it?
Why should the yellow part of eggs not be eaten?
1. People with high cholesterol and heart disease – Egg yolk contains very high amount of cholesterol. One yolk contains about 185 mg cholesterol. This is fine for most healthy people, but it can be harmful for people whose cholesterol is already high or who have heart-related diseases. Excess cholesterol can increase fat in the blood, cause plaque accumulation in the arteries, and increase the risk of heart attack and stroke. Such people should eat less yolk or decide their diet only after consulting the doctor.
2. People with type 2 diabetes – People with diabetes have a higher risk of heart disease than before. If they eat too much cholesterol, this risk may increase further. Therefore, people with diabetes should limit their intake of yolk.
3. Arthritis patients – Egg yolk contains an element called purine. Purine creates uric acid in the body, which can increase the problem in gout patients. Increase in uric acid can cause joint pain, swelling and sudden sharp pain attacks, hence arthritis patients should eat yolk only in limited quantities.
4. People with egg allergy – Many people are allergic to eggs, especially children, although the allergy is often caused by the white, but some people may also have problems with the yolk. This may cause stomach ache, vomiting, skin rash and difficulty in breathing. A person suffering from allergies should give up the yolk completely.
5. People taking certain medicines – People who take statins or blood thinner medicines may also have to change their diet. Yolk can sometimes alter the effect of medicines or increase side effects. Such people should not eat too much yolk without consulting a doctor.
