Vitamin B12 is found in meat, fish, eggs and dairy products. Due to its deficiency, homocysteine increases in the brain, which damages nerve cells and slows down the ability to think.

Vegetarians, elderly people and people suffering from some diseases like diabetes or kidney disease are more victims of this deficiency. This problem can also increase in people taking medicines like acid blocker or metformin for a long time.

Its early identification is necessary. Forgetfulness, lack of concentration, irritability, or tingling in hands and feet can be its symptoms. This can be detected through blood test.

For prevention, include B12 rich foods like milk, eggs, cheese and fish in your diet. Vegetarians can take fortified foods or supplements.

Besides, intake of folate, vitamin B6 and riboflavin is also important because together these three keep the brain healthy.

If attention is paid in time, memory problems and mental weakness caused by deficiency of Vitamin B12 can be easily prevented.
