If everyone starts using electric things as per their convenience then the danger in the coach increases. Many times incidents like overheating, short circuit and smoke spread have also happened. Why can’t electric kettles be used in trains?
Indian Railways has set rules for traveling by train and all passengers have to follow those rules. You can’t do anything in the train like you do at home. You cannot use an electric kettle on a train. The power supply of a train is not like a domestic system. Here the load is fixed and the wiring of the coach is also made accordingly. Electric kettle, induction, heater, press or other high wattage appliances draw more load.

Due to this, the pressure on the system line of the coach increases and there is a danger of overloading. In many cases, incidents of sparks, breaker falling or smoke filling have been reported. Railways takes such accidents very seriously. Because hundreds of people travel in the coach. This is the reason why only low-wattage devices like mobile, power bank or laptop are allowed to be charged in the train.

How much fine can be imposed?
Operating any kind of high-wattage electric equipment in the train is a violation of the rules. If anyone is caught using an electric kettle or similar high-wattage device in a train, a fine can be imposed under the Railways Act. The amount is decided depending on the seriousness of the case.
Under Section 153 of the Railway Act, there is a provision for fine and imprisonment up to six months. If this action causes damage or creates a situation like fire and smoke in the coach, then Section 154 may be applied. In which there is a provision for fine and imprisonment up to two years.
