Veteran Congress leader and Kerala MP Shashi Tharoor recently said in a program that ideological purity will not build the nation. There may be different governments at the Center and the State, but mutual cooperation is necessary. We must sometimes be prepared to cooperate even between different ideologies.
Shashi Tharoor said in an Amrita News program in Dubai this week that the problem is that right now our politics demands that everyone should be ideologically purist, so we will not see any merit in the other side or will not talk to anyone from the other side, which is not good for a healthy democracy.
‘Accused of praising the Prime Minister’
He further said that even an impartial post made by me on the Prime Minister’s speech has been accused of praising the Prime Minister, whereas I did not say even a word of praise. I just mentioned the speech. The point is that at present such is the atmosphere in our country. People are only interested in ideological purity, but you can’t get things done that way.
‘Cooperation between state and center is necessary’
Tharoor said that someone has won the elections and formed the government at the Center and you have won the elections in your state and formed the government. If your state does not cooperate with the Centre, then how will you get any work done? In my opinion, this is not a difficult task. You really have to say that it is in our best interest to cooperate. This is in the interest of our people. It is in the interest of the citizens of both India and Kerala.
He further said that yes, I disagree with the ruling party, but they are in power. He has got the mandate of the country. I will work with him. If they come up with a plan that will give money to the state, I will discuss it within the framework of my beliefs, so that I can get money for my state. This kind of mutual cooperation is necessary among everyone.
