It has been 845 days since former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was sent to jail. He has been lodged in Rawalpindi’s Adeela Jail since 9 May 2023 and 16 May 2024 was the last date when Imran Khan was seen in public during a court appearance through video conferencing. One and a half years have passed since this happened. And since then no one has seen Imran Khan in public. The last time Imran Khan appeared in the court was in September 2025 through video conferencing. He had also appeared, but neither his voice nor his picture was clear, which started giving rise to the fact that all is not well with Imran Khan who is in jail.
The family could not meet Imran even after several attempts.
Since then, Imran’s family made a total of 8 attempts to meet Imran in jail. He also had the court’s order of March 2025, in which it was clearly written that the family members could meet Imran in jail twice a month. The meeting will last for half an hour and the maximum number of visitors will be 6. But the jail administration never followed the court order. Just this year, on November 18, Imran Khan’s three sisters Alima Khan, Noreen Niazi and Dr. Uzma Khan had reached jail to meet Imran. But the jail administration stopped the three from meeting citing security. The result was that the three sisters sat on strike outside the jail. As soon as the news was received, thousands of supporters of Imran Khan’s party PTI gathered outside the jail. The police resorted to lathi charge and took the three sisters into custody. The very next week after the release of all three, news started spreading in Pakistan that Imran Khan had been murdered in the jail itself and his body had been taken out of the jail and buried at an unknown place.

This news was confirmed by an Afghan newspaper, which quoted the Pakistani Army as saying about the death of Imran Khan. After this, news of Imran Khan’s death started being spread through different social media handles and large scale demonstrations started taking place in Pakistan. These demonstrations are still happening. In these demonstrations, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was also beaten and injured by the Pakistani Army. And now this matter has again reached Islamabad High Court, where Imran Khan’s sister Alima has filed a case of contempt of court.
The issue is not limited to Pakistan only
But now this issue is not limited to Pakistan only. Because Imran Khan’s son Qasim Khan has appealed to the international community to intervene in this matter. And the first effect of that appeal is that Zalim Khalilzade, former US Ambassador to Afghanistan, has written a post on social media saying that the whole of Pakistan just wants to know whether Imran Khan is alive in jail or not. Although the jail administration of Rawalpindi is saying that Imran Khan is fine, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s political advisor Rana Sanaullah is saying that the jailed Imran is planning an attack on Islamabad, hence he is not being allowed to meet anyone. But till now no such evidence has been presented by the Government of Pakistan that Imran Khan is alive, on which anyone can trust.
