Mumbai Indians have prepared a strong squad for WPL 2026. Two-time champion MI had retained 5 players before the auction. In the auction, Mumbai spent Rs 3 crore on New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr. With the return of Shabnim Ismail to Sanskriti Gupta and Sajna Sajeevan, Mumbai’s squad looks as strong as before. MI franchise owner Nita Ambani says that the team wanted to buy as many old players as possible.
Regarding the auction held on Thursday, November 27, Nita Ambani said, “Auction days are very exciting, but sometimes they are also troublesome. Our strategy was to buy as many players as possible from the winning team of 2025. I am very excited with the return of Amelia Kerr and the arrival of our 4 players: Shabnim, Saika, Sajna and Sanskriti. We are also very excited with the arrival of 3 youngsters, who are Rahila Firdous, Nalla. Kranthi Reddy and Triveni Vashishtha, I welcome Poonam Khemnar, Millie Illingworth and Nicola Carey to the Mumbai Indians family.”
Apart from captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Nate Sciver Brunt, Haley Mathews, Amanjot Kaur and G Kamalini had already been retained. Apart from them, MI has bought back the recent T20 World Cup player of the tournament Amelia Kerr, S Sajna, Saika Ishaq, Sanskriti Gupta and fast bowler Shabnim Ismail. India’s World Cup winning captain Harmanpreet Kaur was also present in the auction held in New Delhi. He contributed to the strategies on the auction table.
On this experience, Harmanpreet Kaur said, “I was nervous in the beginning, but I liked the way we had planned and everyone’s participation, especially Nita Ambani. She has always been the biggest support of the team and always supports us. We have got most of our old teammates back, which shows how much trust the team has in those players.”
These 5 players have been important in the success of Mumbai Indians, among them Saika, Sajna and Sanskriti have been the rising star players of this tournament.
Apart from the famous players, MI has also included the Australian pair of multiple-time World Cup winner Nicola Cray and young fast bowler Millie Illingworth in its squad.
In line with its policy of supporting young Indian talent, Mumbai Indians have fielded a balanced squad with the inclusion of Indian all-rounders Nalla Kranthi Reddy and Triveni Vashishtha. Kranti and Triveni will be becoming a part of WPL for the first time.
