Ban on Jaihind-Vande Mataram slogans in Rajya Sabha, politics heated up, sharp attack by Congress MP Pappu Yadav

In the Rajya Sabha bulletin, citing etiquette and tradition, MPs have been advised not to raise slogans like Jai Hind and Vande Mataram. Congress and Trinamool Congress (TMC) have openly criticized it. Independent MP from Purnia and Congress leader Pappu Yadav on Saturday termed it a violation of freedom of expression.

Pappu Yadav’s counterattack

On banning slogans of ‘Jai Hind’ and ‘Vande Mataram’ in speeches in Rajya Sabha, Pappu Yadav, while speaking to IANS, said, “It is everyone’s right to speak, whether one says ‘Vande Mataram’, ‘Jai Hind’, ‘Waheguru’, ‘Sat Shri Akal’, or ‘Har Har Mahadev’. Everyone has their freedom, but if the government imposes anything, it is wrong. Under the Constitution. No one has any problem in working.”

What did you say on SIR?

On the controversy regarding SIR, he said, “Many BLOs died in Uttar Pradesh. This only shows that the Election Commission’s method is wrong. Proper time should be given. SIR should be investigated and it should be implemented in a scientific and transparent manner. The way democracy was ended in Bihar by snatching the voting rights of poor and common people, it should not happen.”

What did JDU spokesperson say?

On the controversy over not raising slogans like Jai Hind and Vande Mataram in the Rajya Sabha, JDU spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said, “Why does raising slogans and using the national symbol become a subject of political discussion? This should definitely be avoided. All political parties have expressed their dedication towards the Constitution of this country. It is not appropriate to discuss and criticize the symbols which are allowed to be used by the Constitution.”

On the issue of Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray raising slogans in the House and challenging the BJP, Neeraj Kumar said, “There is no such challenge. The public has already rejected those people.”
