Because, the state government is preparing to impose green cess tax on vehicles coming from other states. This tax can start from the second week of December. Under this, vehicles coming from other states will have to pay green sense tax. This tax will be automatically deducted from the fast tags of vehicles coming from other states.

Uttarakhand’s Additional Transport Commissioner SK Singh said that the entire process of collecting this green cess tax will be done through ANPR cameras. These vehicles have been placed in different categories, according to which the rates of green cess tax have also been fixed. If a vehicle enters the state twice in a day, this tax will not be collected the second time.

These vehicles will have to pay this much tax

According to the Transport Department, Rs 80 will be charged as green cess tax on four wheelers. Whereas green sense tax will be levied at Rs 250 per day on delivery vans, Rs 120 per day on heavy vehicles, Rs 140 on buses and Rs 140 to 700 on trucks depending on its size. This tax will be valid for 24 hours. According to the department, this will generate revenue of around Rs 100-150 crore to the state government every year.

Many vehicles have also been kept separate from the scope of this tax. This green cess tax will not be imposed on two-wheelers coming from other states. Electric and CNG vehicles have also been exempted. Whereas government vehicles, fire brigade vehicles, ambulances etc. will also not have to pay this tax. Earlier it was scheduled to start from December 1, but due to some technical reasons it may get delayed.

ANPR cameras will keep an eye on

According to the Transport Department, this entire process will be state-of-the-art and transparent. This work will be handled by a private company. This company has marked 16 points on the borders of Uttarakhand. ANPR cameras i.e. Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras have been installed at these places. These cameras will identify vehicles from other states and automatic tax will be deducted through Fast Tag.

The state government says that the revenue that will be received from this tax. It will be used for air pollution control, road safety and urban transport improvement in the state. Which will also help the state in doing other development work.
