Hema Malini on Dharmendra’s last days
UAE filmmaker Hamad Al Reiyami has shared a note on Instagram. He recently met Hema Malini after Dharmendra’s death. In the note, Hamad revealed that Hema talked about the reasons behind the family’s decision to hold a private funeral and talked about Dharmendra’s painful last days.
He posted a photo with Hema Malini, along with a caption in Arabic, which roughly means, “On the third day of mourning, I went to meet the famous actress Hema Malini, wife of the late superstar Dharmendra. It was the first time I had met her in person, although I had seen her from a distance many times before. But this time there was something different… a painful, heartbreaking occasion, something that is almost incomprehensible, no matter how much I try.” Let me try.”
Hema Malini is devastated by Dharmendra’s demise
The filmmaker further added, “I was sitting with her, and I could see an inner turmoil on her face which she was desperately trying to hide. She told me in a trembling voice, ‘I wish I was on the farm the same day I was with Dharmendra two months ago… I wish I had seen him there.’
She told me that she always used to say to Dharmendra, “Why don’t you publish your beautiful poems and articles?” And he would reply, “Not yet…let me finish some poems first.” But time did not spare him, and he passed away…” Talking about the conversation he had with Hema Malini, Hamad said, “She told me bitterly, ‘Now strangers will come… they will write about him, they will write books… while his own words never came out’.”
Why was Dharmendra’s funeral kept private?,
The filmmaker told that Hema Malini also told about the reason for keeping Dharmendra’s funeral private. Hamad said, “He then said with great sadness that he regretted that his fans did not get the chance to see him for the last time. And he added: ‘Dharmendra, throughout his life, never wanted anyone to see him weak or sick. He hid his pain even from his closest relatives and after a person passes away, the decision is the family’.”
Hamad further wrote, “Then she paused for a moment… wiped away a tear… and said to me clearly, ‘But what happened was pity… because, Hamad, you could not see him in that condition. In his last days his condition was very bad… painful… and we too could hardly bear to see him in that condition. Her words were like arrows… painful and true.’ The filmmaker ended the long note by remembering Dharmendra for his charisma and his contribution to cinema, and wrote, “My forever hero, the legendary superstar Dharmendra.”
