Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh is very serious about the metro rail scheme in the state, now after cities like Noida, Lucknow, Kanpur and Agra, there is a plan to run metro in cities like Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Saharanpur, Meerut, Moradabad, Jhansi, Ayodhya, Mathura-Vrindavan and Aligarh. This plan was placed in the workshop of Vikas Bharat @2047, in which UP Metro Rail Corporation presented its agenda. The corporation estimates that in the next 20 years, 50-50 km metro routes can be expanded in these cities, which will take the total to 1575 km.

This step of Yogi government will bring a revolution in public transport in the state. In this, Lucknow Metro is to be expanded to 225 km. 200 km metro network in Kanpur, similarly construction of 150 km long metro corridor in Noida, Greater Noida, Varanasi and Prayagraj. Along with this, there is a plan to expand 50-50 km metro line in other cities like Bareilly Saharanpur also.

Not only this, a target has been set in the workshop to build 790 km metro track by 2035. This scheme will require an investment of approximately Rs 1527 crore every year.

UP Metro in profit

Let us tell you here that currently UP Metro Rail Corporation is in profit. UP Metro is far ahead in the country in terms of cost and its revenue ratio. Especially in tier-2 cities. It was told in the workshop that soon the trial of metro from IIT to Naubasta in Kanpur will start from 26th January. With this, passengers will no longer need to change trains at Motijheel. The waiting time of the train will also reduce from 15 minutes to 5 minutes.

Claim to provide metro on every route

In the workshop, MD of UP Metro Rail Corporation Sushil Kumar told that major routes are being included in the first phase. Further expansion will take place soon after this. Possibilities of expanding metro in other cities of the state are also being explored.
