Winter Health Tips: With the onset of winter, many people start suffering from cold related diseases like cough, cold, throat disease etc. As soon as the temperature decreases, it affects our immunity, due to which we remain at risk of many other diseases. And one more thing is that in winter, when people feel even slightly unwell, like cough, cold, mucus in the throat etc., they run straight to the doctors for medicines, which is wrong. Consuming excess medicines is harmful for our health. If you are suffering from normal winter diseases then you can consume Ayurvedic decoction, which helps in increasing your immunity and keeping the body healthy and free from diseases.
How to make Ayurvedic decoction?
Ayurvedic decoction is being consumed in India since ancient times to cure diseases, which you can easily make at home. To make Ayurvedic Kadha at home, we will need things easily available in our kitchen like turmeric, cinnamon, some basil leaves, cloves and everyday spices like black pepper. To make this, pour as much water as you need to make the decoction in a vessel. To understand easily, pour 2-3 glasses of water in a vessel and boil it. Then add 3-4 basil leaves and half chopped ginger in boiling water. Then add two-three cloves, a little cinnamon and a pinch of turmeric and boil on low flame. Cook it until half the water remains in the vessel. Filter the prepared decoction, add some jaggery or honey and drink it hot, which will keep your immunity strong. All the things used in Ayurvedic decoction are available in our kitchen itself.
According to Ayurveda, drinking decoction in winter season also strengthens our digestive power, due to which our food gets easily digested in the stomach. By consuming it, diseases caused by cold go away, just as by consuming the decoction, phlegm and mucus accumulated in the throat gets eliminated. Joint pain in the body also reduces significantly in winter. And not only elders and old people, but also children can drink the decoction, because children are the most sick in cold. To increase their immunity, parents must make them drink the decoction.
Ingredients for making Ayurvedic decoction
- 8–10 basil leaves
- 1 piece half ground ginger
- 4–5 black peppers (lightly crushed)
- 5–6 cloves
- 1 small piece cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
- 2 glasses of water
- 2–3 teaspoon honey
