The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made a big announcement this time regarding practical exams, project work and internal assessment for the students of class 10th and 12th. The board has issued new guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs), which all schools will have to implement without any mistake this time. Every year there is a process of practical and internal assessment, but this time the board has made many important changes, so that the examination system remains the same in schools across the country.
CBSE has clearly said that all the schools will have to complete the entire practical and project work within the stipulated time, because this year the board is going to conduct a total of four examinations. In such a situation, it is important to utilize time properly, so that no student or school has to face problems later.
It will be mandatory to upload correct marks on the web portal.
CBSE has asked schools to upload the marks of practical and internal assessment on the web-portal very carefully. The board has also made it clear that once the marks are uploaded, no changes of any kind will be accepted. Because of this, schools will have to complete the entire process carefully.
New feature in answer book: Undertaking of both the examiners is necessary
A new and special change this year is the new feature in the Practical Answer Book. In this, both internal and external examiners will have to give a written undertaking that they have checked and uploaded all the data correctly. This will reduce the chances of mistakes and make the entire process more transparent.
When will be the practicals of class 10th and 12th?
It will be conducted from 1 January 2026 to 14 February 2026. Whereas the dates for schools in winter bound areas have been kept earlier. Practicals will be organized in these schools from 6 November 2025 to 6 December 2025. The board has instructed all the schools to prepare their complete timetable according to these dates and complete everything on time.
Important rules for regular students
Practical, project and internal assessment will be conducted only for those students whose names have been sent by the school to the board through LOC. If any student’s name is not in the board list, the school has to immediately contact the regional office. Schools will also have to ensure that only the actual student, whose name has been sent, appears in the practical examination. If any kind of irregularity is found, strict action can be taken against the school.
Board fixed rules for private candidates also
For private students, CBSE has made arrangements that their practical, project and internal marks will be given as per the policy and examination bye-laws set by the board. If for any reason a private student has to re-conduct his/her practical, it will also be done as per the policy of the Board. The board has asked the schools to explain the entire policy clearly to the private candidates, so that there is no further misunderstanding or problem.
Why were these changes made?
CBSE conducts practical examinations for lakhs of students every year. Many times, complaints were received at some places due to the process not being followed properly or schools adopting different methods. Keeping this in view, the board has made changes in the SOPs this time, so that the examination can be completely transparent, uniform and on time.
What will change for students?
Practical and internal assessments will now be more stringent and time bound. There will be very less chances of error in marks uploading. Students will have to give their exams on time, because now there will be no scope for delay in the dates. The responsibilities of both internal and external examiners have increased.
